CSUB Quality of Life Center Partners with Community for iHope Forum

The Mission at Kern County, KIT Community and Stewards, Inc. are partnering with The Quality of Life Center at California State University, Bakersfield for the first Innovating Homeless Outreach Projects for Empowerment (iHOPE) community forum from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5, in the CSUB Student Housing Multipurpose Room.

"We who are fortunate enough to have stable homes must move more toward comprehension of the notion of homelessness or being uprooted. Community forums such as this one provide an
opportunity to more fully comprehend and then mitigate the homelessness crisis,” said Dr. Tanya Boone-Holladay, Associate Dean for CSUB’s School of Social Sciences and Education.

“Governments, community organization, and houses of worship are the typical leaders in the search for answers to homelessness; however, everyone has the power to try to influence decisions, practices and policy on this issue, and I encourage members of the community to come join us. This event is about sharing ideas and finding innovative and proven solutions that will provide stable housing for the homeless in our community.”

The community forum will address the challenges and complexities of homelessness in our community, as well as how the community can get involved. Richard Beene, host of the Richard Beene Show on KERN Newstalk 1180, will moderate the evening.

Panelists from local agencies and nonprofit organizations will include:
• Deborah Johnson, President/CEO, California Veterans Assistance Foundation, Inc.
• Louis Gill, CEO, Bakersfield Homeless Center
• Carlos Baldovinos, CEO, The Mission at Kern County
• Stephen Pelz, Executive Director, Housing Authority of County of Kern
• Jessica Armstrong, Unit Supervisor of the Homeless Adult Team, Behavioral Health and
Recovery Services
