CSUB’s 60+ Club Celebrates Opportunities at Possibilities Day

The 60+ Club at California State University, Bakersfield will hold its annual Possibilities Day from 9 a.m. until noon on Thursday, Sept. 14, in the CSUB Student Union Multipurpose Room.

Possibilities Day is an annual event that showcases all of the possibilities each new and returning club member can expect for the upcoming year. The day kicks off with an introduction from the club president, Cheryl Tikanen, followed by a presentation from a guest speaker. This year’s speaker, CSUB Vice President of University Advancement Victor Martin, will give insightful information into the University and the vision of the club as it launches into the academic year. There will be a short time for a Q&A session after the presentation.

Following Vice President Martin’s address, leaders of various interest and volunteer service groups will be introducing what to expect of each interest group. This time will allow members and those curious to peruse the tables and ask questions at the guests’ leisure.

“The 60+ Club is one of CSUB’s longest-standing volunteer organizations, and we are grateful for the countless volunteer hours they dedicate each year,” said CSUB Director of Alumni Engagement Sarah Hendrick.  “Possibilities Day is a great way for community members to learn more about the club, connect with like-minded individuals, and give back to the community and University.”

The club is managed by the CSUB Office of Alumni Engagement, but you don’t have to be an alumna/us to join. Anyone in the community who is over the age of 60 or retired is welcome to join. A single member can join for $40, and couples can join for $80.

Club members can attend monthly meetings at CSUB’s campus every second Thursday of the month and can participate in many CSUB events. It also includes access to the Walter W. Stiern Library on campus, along with interest groups and an Action Network made up of volunteers to assist with ticket-taking at performing arts and athletic events.
