Alan Fuchs Named Director of CSU Bakersfield’s California Energy Research Center

Alan Fuchs, formerly the Chair and Faculty of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno, has been named director of the California Energy Research Center at CSU Bakersfield, CSUB Dean of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering Kathleen Madden announced today. Dr. Fuchs’ appointment was effective Aug. 21.
The California Energy Research Center (CERC) leverages the university's academic resources and the expertise of Kern County energy industries to address technical, economic and public policy issues associated with energy production and generation in Kern County and California.  The CERC also serves as a catalyst to expand the university's capacity in key energy-related disciplines while benefiting vital regional and statewide energy assets and economic drivers.
“I am excited about working with interdisciplinary groups of faculty, students and industry to put together innovative proposals in existing and new focal areas of energy research for the university,” Dr. Fuchs said.
Dr. Fuchs’ research focus is on water treatment, process design, polymer materials and membranes.
“The California Energy Research Center was established with a primary goal of fostering collaborations between CSUB students and faculty and our Kern County energy industries,
Dr. Madden said.  “CERC has the potential to be a great resource for CSUB and for the local community, and we’re very excited to have Dr. Fuchs on board to take it to the next level.”
Dr. Fuchs served as chair of Chemical and Materials Engineering at the University of Nevada, Reno, from 2010-2015 and was faculty in the department from 1998-2017. He earned his PhD in chemical engineering from Tufts University.  He also earned a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Rochester and a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Cooper Union School of Engineering.
