CSUB To Host CSU Honors Conference

Approximately 70 Honors students from throughout the California State University system will participate in a conference at California State University, Bakersfield from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 29.

The conference will open in the Student Union Multipurpose Room at 8:45 a.m. and close with the presentation of awards and remarks by CSUB President Horace Mitchell at 3:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room.  Students will make presentations throughout the day in the Dezember Leadership Center.

The students will present research papers or posters at the conference, according to Dr. Jacquelyn Kegley, director of the Helen Hawk Honors Program at CSUB.  In addition, the winner and runner-up for the Michael Flachmann prize for best extensive research paper will present plenary talks.  Other papers submitted for the prize will be featured in afternoon sessions.

“We are excited to be able to host this prestigious conference featuring students who are so passionate about research,” Dr. Kegley said.

CSUB students participating in the conference are biology major Jazmine Munoz; English major Russell Bailey; nursing majors Errys Frondarina and Isaac Anua; English and psychology major Sidney Russell; and physics, biochemistry, anthropology major Andrew Kelly.

CSUB’s Helen Hawk Honors Program will host the conference.

All parking lots will be accessible on Saturday as the campus also is hosting “Celebrate CSUB.”  Lot G is closest to the presentation rooms, and Lots K1 and K2 are closest to the opening and closing venues in the Student Union Multipurpose Room.
