CSUB Research Excellence Day Set for April 21

California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Office of Grants, Research, and Sponsored Programs (GRaSP) will hold a series of events for its Third Annual Research Excellence Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 21.
Research Excellence Day, which highlights the research and sponsored programs of CSUB students, faculty, and staff, will include a keynote address by Dr. R. Brandon Pratt, the recipient of the 2016-17 CSUB Faculty Scholarship and Creative Activity Award.  Dr. Pratt’s address will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in the Dezember Leadership Development Center Room 402D.
Dr. Pratt has been a faculty member at CSUB since 2005 and has developed an impressive research program and scholarship record.  He has published 45 papers in nationally and internationally recognized journals, and his articles have had a substantial impact on his field and have been extensively cited.
Dr. Pratt also has an exceptional record of obtaining external funding for his research, obtaining more than $6 million from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other competitive funding sources.  He received the NSF CAREER award in 2009, one of the most competitive and prestigious awards given by the NSF.  Dr. Pratt’s grants have supported three post-doctoral scholars, several graduate students, and more than 30 undergraduate students working in his lab, and many of these students have already been published in peer-reviewed journals as a result of Dr. Pratt’s exemplary mentorship.
The Keynote Speaker event requires an RSVP by April 13 by calling (661) 654-2231.
Research Excellence Day also will include faculty and staff research poster presentations from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Icardo Room and the Student Research and Creative Activity Poster Competition from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Icardo Center.
