2017 Student Research Competition to Take Place at CSUB

The California State University, Bakersfield Office of Grants, Research and Sponsored Programs (GRaSP) is hosting its 18th Annual Student Research Competition on March 10 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Dezember Leadership Development Center. Applications for the competition are due on February 24.

The competition showcases research and creative activities in all disciplines by undergraduate, graduate students, and 2016 alumni students. Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at CSUB, as well as alumni/alumnae who received their degrees in spring, summer or fall 2016, are eligible to apply.

Competitions will fall into nine categories: Behavioral and Social Sciences; Biological and Agricultural Sciences; Business, Economics and Public Administration; Creative Arts and Design, Education, Engineering and Computer Science; Health, Nutrition, and Clinical Sciences, Humanities and Letters; and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The categories will be separated by undergraduate and graduate divisions during the Research Competition.

Students’ presentations will be judged on the clarity of purpose, appropriateness of methodology, interpretation of results, ability of the presenter to articulate the research or creative activity, organization of the material presented, presenter’s ability to handle questions from the jury and general audience, and the value of the research or creative activity.

Entrants will have 10 minutes for the oral presentation of their work, and three minutes to listen and respond to juror and audience questions. Students also may use audiovisual material as appropriate, and presenters are encouraged to use delivery techniques that promote interaction with the audience.

Winners of the Student Research Competition will represent CSUB in the Statewide Student Research Competition.
