Campus Gamers to Host Extra Life Gaming Event

The California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) Campus Gamers Student Club is hosting their annual 10-hour Extra Life Gaming event on Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. This event has become highly-anticipated in the Bakersfield community, not only because it is a plethora of gaming fun, but it also supports a worthy cause.

This year’s event will include 120 game consoles and over 1,000 video, board, card and tabletop games. The entire Student Union along with rooms in Dorothy Donahoe Hall (DDH) will be filled with themed games, such as Halo, Pokémon, Star Wars, Smash Bros., as well as other retro, fighting, racing games, motion, Japanese and children’s games.

“Since 2012, the Bakersfield Extra Life events, hosted by Campus Gamers have raised more than $80,000 for life-saving medical equipment, and is now one of the biggest gaming-related events in Bakersfield,” said Campus Gamers Founder, Ed Webb.

The Extra Life event raises funds for the Lauren Small Children’s Center at Dignity Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield. At 2 p.m. on November 5 in the Student Union Multi-Purpose Room, representatives from the Children’s Miracle Network and the Lauren Small Children’s will share stories that highlight the impact of funds raised at the event. One of the stories will include a family whose daughter was the smallest baby born at Dignity Memorial Hospital three years ago, weighing only 12 ounces – the weight of a soda can.

In order to join in the festivities, participants are asked to raise or contribute at least $20. The more that is raised, the more opportunities participants have to win prizes, including games, figurines and hardware. The first 100 people to raise $100 will receive a gold medal and one entry into a drawing for an Xbox One gaming package; a $700 value. Lunch from Subway and dinner from Panda Express are free to participants, thanks to the contribution of the Associated Student, Inc. (ASI). Local legend, George ‘The Giant’ McArthur is also planning to attend the Extra Life Gaming event and a cosplay contest will follow the family presentation.

If individuals are interested in participating in the fundraising efforts or the group gaming event , can register for free at, by November 5. Donations can also be made at the door.
