Dr. Ian Gindes to Perform at Dore´ Theatre

Dr. Ian Gindes, Army National Guardsman and concert pianist, will return to his hometown of Bakersfield on Friday, September 30. Gindes will perform at the Doré Theatre on the California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) campus at 7:30 p.m.

The performance, sponsored by the music faculty at CSUB, will feature selections from his new album, American Visions, which has received national and international acclaim. The album celebrates American composers from the 20th century. He will also play other classical favorites.

“The most important thing for me as a performer is to be able to give my music to others. It is an honor for me to be able to perform in my hometown,” said Gindes.

Dr. Gindes began his piano career during his youth in Bakersfield,

studying with longtime teacher, Shirley Werling and esteemed local pianist, Bonnie Farrer. After graduating from East Bakersfield High School, he studied with Errol Haun of the University of Northern Colorado and Ian Hobson of the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, where he received his Doctorate in 2011. Gindes is the 2011 winner of the Bradshaw and Buono International Piano Competition and over the years has performed extensively throughout the United States, including New York City’s Carnegie Hall. Gindes also serves as a commissioned officer in the United States Army National Guard. Over the years, he has given highly publicized performances to honor and raise funds for families of soldiers and victims of terrorism and war.

Tickets for Friday’s concert will be available for purchase at the door. Prices are $10 for general admission; $8 for seniors, CSUB faculty and staff; $5 for students with identification. Guests can park for free in Lots B and C.
