Inaugural CSUB Music and Theatre Department to Showcase Steinway Concert Grand Piano

The Music and Theatre Department at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) will present a Steinway Piano Inaugural Concert on Friday, September 9 in the Doré Theatre at 7:30 p.m.

“Steinway & Sons Pianos are recognized as the ‘state of the art’ instruments both nationally and internationally. With this Piano in the Doré Theatre, the University will be able to host high caliber guest artists who require Steinway Pianos for their appearances. It will also provide our advanced students an opportunity to play a world-class concert grand piano as part of their training at CSUB,” said Music and Theatre Department Chair, Mandy Rees.

The Steinway Piano is a world-class instrument that will raise the profile of the CSUB music program. The Steinway Concert Grand, delivered to CSUB in February, is the first Steinway purchase made by CSUB. As part of a replacement program, Steinway & Sons Grand and Upright pianos will take the place of music department’s remaining inventory of aging pianos. Soon CSUB music students will be able to enjoy studying and playing on the world’s finest pianos.

Friday’s concert will highlight solo and ensemble works performed by CSUB music students and faculty members, including the works of Josef Suk’s “Towards a New Life” for Trumpet Ensemble, Claude Debussy’s Prelude from Pour Le Piano, Edvard Grieg’s Andante con moto in C Minor for Piano Trio and Hungarian Dances by Johannes Brahms for 1 Piano 4 Hands.

“To have this new Steinway Concert Grand Piano on campus is the first step of the CSUB Music Program toward becoming an ‘All Steinway School’. This commitment will demonstrate the University's strong dedication to its students and the community,” said Coordinator of Piano Studies, Soo-Yeon Park.
