CSUB to Host Chevron’s 5th Annual Engineering Design Challenge Bakersfield Regionals

California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) is proud to host the 2016 Chevron Engineering Design Challenge (CDC) Bakersfield Regionals. Local high school students enrolled in the Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Pathways to Engineering Program will put their design skills to the test by responding to real-life scenarios and designing products at the annual CDC on April 16 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at CSUB.

Teams will be composed of three students, all of whom have completed, or are currently enrolled in a PLTW, Introduction to Engineering Design, or Introduction to Design class, and have not participated in the EDC before. Participants will be given a design brief in the morning and will have the entire day to work together and create an original design that meets the specifications given. Throughout the day, teams will be required to submit sketches, assemble drawings, and prepare a parts list. At the end of the day, they will give a short presentation of their design to a panel of engineers and other industry professionals. Teams will have access to two computers installed with Inventor 2016, and will create

sketches using Autodesk Inventor, a 3D software program, and present their own unique designs.

Prizes for the regional competitions will include an iPad and gift cards. First, second and third place teams will advance to the State Finals in Sacramento in May, and are awarded a $1,000 travel stipend to attend the Finals.
