Research Excellence Day 2016

California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Office of Grants, Research, and Sponsored Programs (GRaSP) will hold its Second Annual Research Excellence Day on Friday, April 8, 2016 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Research Excellence Day is an opportunity to highlight research conducted by our outstanding students, staff and faculty. Interested CSUB researchers may apply by March 25. Faculty and staff who wish to participate in the research poster presentation will find abstract submission guidelines on the GRaSP website at Students will find the student research poster competition application and guidelines on the website as well. Cash awards are presented to First Place ($100), Second Place ($50), and Third Place ($25) winners.

Research Excellence Day will recognize all faculty, staff, and students who participate in research and creative activities, and honor those whose sponsored program efforts support the University. The event will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Hossein Bidgoli, selected as CSUB’s 2015- 16 recipient of the Faculty Scholarship and Creative Activity Award. Dr. Bidgoli has been a faculty member at CSUB since fall of 1983, teaching a variety of graduate and undergraduate Management Information Systems (MIS) courses, and was selected as CSUB’s Outstanding Professor in 2001-2002. Dr. Bidgoli is highly regarded for his ability to

combine teaching with active research and creating forward thinking classrooms for his students. He is the author of 46 textbooks, 27 manuals, and over five dozen technical articles and papers on various aspects of computer applications, information systems, and network security, e-commerce and decision support systems published and presented throughout the world. Dr. Bidgoli also serves as the editor-in- chief of the Handbook of Technology Management, The Handbook of Computer Networks, The Handbook of Information Security, The Internet Encyclopedia, and the Encyclopedia of Information Systems.

The Faculty Speaker Series will take place from 8:30 a.m. to noon and the Keynote Speaker is scheduled to present from noon to 1 p.m. in the Dezember Leadership Development Center Rooms 401D and 402D. The Keynote Speaker event requires RSVP (661) 654-223, as lunch will be provided. Faculty research poster presentations occur from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Solario de Fortaleza, with the Student Research Poster Competition held from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center. Project abstracts should be submitted to the GRaSP Office, DDH D108 by Friday, March 25, 2016 for consideration.

The mission of the GRaSP Office is to provide the administrative infrastructure for the development and submission of proposals, and for the receipt and management of funds, for the sponsored programs of the University and the CSUB Auxiliary for Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA).
