Kappa Sigma Fraternity Give Big

On March 4, 2016, the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) celebrated one of their founding members with the Stephen Alonzo Jackson Day of Giving. The event encourages giving within the fraternity’s membership to foster a culture of giving. The CSUB chapter engaged 99 fraternity brothers and raised nearly $1,000 in donations. Within a 24-hour period, 4,581 brothers donated nationally and raised a record $156,716 for the Chapter Scholarship Fund.

The Kappa Sigma Fraternity on campus ranked eighth among 320 collegiate chapters internationally and number one in California. “This is the greatest fundraising campaign in Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund history,” said Thomas P. Bishop, Endowment Fund Chairman. Stephen Alonzo Jackson was one of the greatest brothers in Kappa Sigma history, as he took a struggling local fraternity and turned it into a strong national organization. The day was birthed to give back in his honor.

“I believe it’s a great accomplishment for such a young chapter, like Omicron Mu, which has only been at CSUB since 2006,” said Andy Luna, Kappa Sigma, Omicron Mu President. “Being placed in the top 2% in a fraternity that has over 300 chapters internationally. I hope my brothers at CSUB realize that their diligence is being rewarded and recognized nationwide.”

Founded in 1919 by Brothers of Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Kappa Sigma Endowment Fund is the oldest college fraternity foundation and has awarded nearly $5 million to deserving Kappa Sigma undergraduates across the United States and Canada. It exists to support the charitable and beneficent purposes of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
