2016 Student Research Competition to Take Place at CSUB

California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Grants, Research & Sponsored Programs (GRaSP) department will be holding their 17th Annual Student Research Competition on Friday, March 4 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Dezember Leadership Center.

The purpose of the CSUB Student Research Competition is to showcase research and creative activities in all disciplines by undergraduate and graduate students and 2015 alumni. Undergraduate or graduate students currently enrolled at CSUB, as well as alumni/alumnae who received their degrees in spring, summer, or fall 2015 were eligible to apply. Applications were due on February 19, 2016. Competitions will fall into nine categories: Behavioral and Social Sciences; Biological and Agricultural Sciences; Business, Economics and Public Administration; Creative Arts and Design; Education, Engineering and Computer Science; Health, Nutrition and Clinical Sciences, Humanities and Letters; and Physical and Mathematical Sciences. The categories will be separated by undergraduate and graduate divisions during the Research Competition.

Students’ presentations will be judged on the clarity of purpose; appropriateness of methodology; interpretation of results; ability of the presenter to articulate the research or creative activity; organization of the material presented; presenter’s ability to handle questions from the jury and general audience; and value of the research or creative activity. Entrants will have ten minutes for the oral presentation of their work, and three minutes to listen and respond to juror and audience questions. Students may also use audiovisual material as appropriate, and presenters are encouraged to use delivery techniques that promote interaction with the audience.

Winners of the Student Research Competition will represent CSUB in the Statewide Student Research Competition.
