CSUB To Host Second Free Professional Learning For Educators Series Session

California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Kern Rural Teacher Residency will hold their Free Professional Learning for Educators Series this Saturday, February 27th from 8 a.m to noon. The goal of this program is to provide greater professional development opportunities and to foster active collaboration among administrators, classroom teachers and credential students. Anyone in the education field is welcome to attend. Breakfast will be provided for attendees.

Effective teaching is essential for student success. To support the growth of local educators, the Kern Rural Teacher Residency program provides high-quality professional development in a variety of areas. Each event in the series will have an educational theme or focus while simultaneously integrating elements of the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation State Standards.

“The first session was very well-attended with close to 200 participants. Educators from all levels were actively engaged around topics related to educational technology. This upcoming session is focused on building relationships with students, which is critical for supporting student success,” said Dr. Kristina LaGue, Associate CSUB Professor and Principal Investigator of the Kern Rural Teacher Residency.

The Kern Rural Teacher Residency Program addresses the need for qualified educators with low attrition rates in high-need rural schools of minority and English-language learner populations. The Program is a partnership between CSUB’s School of Social Sciences & Education and three Central Valley California districts: Buttonwillow Union School District, Lamont Elementary School District, and Semitropic Elementary School District.

There will be one remaining monthly session for this academic year on April 30th for those who were not able to attend the first sessions. For more information about the Kern Rural Teacher Residency or to register, please visit
