CSUB Students Get Connected with Career Fair on Campus

California State University, Bakersfield’s (CSUB) Center for Career Education & Community Engagement (CECE) will host its largest-ever career fair on Monday, February 29, in the Student Recreation Center (SRC) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All students and majors are welcome, as there will be many employment and internship opportunities available.

“We are thrilled that employers see the value in hiring our students. It’s a testament to the quality education our students receive at CSUB,” said Dr. Markel Quarles, Director of the Center for Career Education and Community Engagement.

CECE has been hosting career fairs on campus for quite some time, and each year the number of employers continues to expand in number, industry type and geographic region.

“In the past three years I have actively recruited at CSU Bakersfield, working with CECE, career fairs and workshops CSUB has to offer.  My current staff consists of forty percent Cal State Bakersfield students and graduates,” said Zack McDonald, District Manager of Fastenal Company. “This event provides me the opportunity to meet with students who I know are ready to excel in the workforce. Every year I look forward to meeting the strong candidates who come from this event.”

Enterprise Rent-A-Car is just one of the many businesses that students can expect to see on campus, and offers several opportunities to start a career before graduation, including their Management, CarShare Brand Ambassador and Accounting Internships. If interested in the entrepreneurial world, students can get into the Management Training program that Enterprise also offers. "We have had great success with hiring CSUB students and looking forward to another successful Career Fair,” said Jackie Kennedy of Enterprise, Central Valley.

Employers representing a variety of industries will be present, including: Education, Energy, Healthcare, Financial Services, Agriculture, Law Enforcement, Communications, Human Services, Food and Beverage, Retail, and Banking.

In an effort to encourage employers to recruit university students in the Central Valley, CSUB, Fresno State, UC Merced and University of the Pacific partnered together to coordinate the timing of their career fairs. This collaboration accommodated employers' travel needs and is more synchronized with their hiring timeframes. CSUB has benefited from this partnership and is attracting employers who are newly interested in recruiting CSUB students.

Students should come dressed professionally, have printed copies of their resumés, and be prepared to speak with employers. If you have any further questions about the career fair, please contact the CECE Department at 661-654-3033.
