California State University, Bakersfield New Student Housing Ribbon Cutting

CSU Bakersfield will hold the ribbon cutting ceremony for its new $41 million Student Housing facility on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at noon. The new three-building housing complex, located on the northeast side of campus, consists of two four-story, all-suite residential buildings and a single-story Residence Life Community Center, where the Housing Administrative Offices will be located. Other amenities include a game room, laundry facility, mail center, catering kitchen, multi-use room as well as class rooms and group study rooms.

“Our state-of-the-art amenities are sure to appeal to today’s students and their parents. Research shows students who live on campus are more likely to graduate,” said CSUB Director of Student Housing Crystal Becks.

"The CSUB community is excited about the new residence halls opening January 2015. Our students will now have the opportunity to enjoy campus life in an attractive and functional environment," said Dr. Thomas Wallace, Vice President for Student Affairs.

Boasting nearly 151,000 square feet, the 113-suite, 500-bed facility includes suite-exclusive restrooms and a multitude of energy-saving design features. The building was designed by Steinberg Architects and built by Bernards: Builders and Management Services. The new facility will proudly achieve the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold equivalency.

Originally breaking ground in May 2013, students are projected to move into the facility in January 2015.

Bakersfield Mayor Harvey Hall is scheduled to be on hand to offer a few remarks and to assist in the ribbon cutting.

Parking will be available in lots K1 and K2 with the event taking place in front of the Community Center main entrance, near the new facility’s great lawn. After the ceremony’s conclusion, tours of the new facility will be offered and will end with a reception of light refreshments.
