Nancy Solis: Alum, Masters of Business Administration
Undergraduate Program: Management & Marketing Term/Year graduated:Spring 2009 Institution: CSUBMaster's Program: MBA Term/Year graduated: Spring 2012
Current position title, organization & years worked: HR Manager, 23 ABC/Azteca Bakersfield, 6 months
How/why did you choose your respective program?
I chose to enter the MBA Program of CSUB as I knew the professors and had heard great things about the program. I also knew that it was an affordable and the only local accredited program available.
Did you work first or go straight into the program after your undergraduate studies?
For me it was a wise decision to immediately begin my MBA degree after obtaining my undergraduate degree, as I knew prices would only continue to increase each year. Additionally, I already had a good relationship with my professors so that was going to be important to continue into my master's degree. Lastly, I wanted to continue to reinforce my skills and knowledge of management and marketing.
What was your favorite course(s) and why?
I didn't have a favorite course as I learned so much from each course. What I really enjoyed was courses with specific professors who went above and beyond to teach us real world topics with examples we would apply to our everyday work environments.
What are some of the benefits of having received a master's degree?
The benefits of obtaining a MBA degree are numerous. First, a master's degree makes you more competitive to obtain management employment opportunities. Second, an MBA degree provides you skills and knowledge that allow you to be more confident in your professional role. Additionally, the networking opportunities are invaluable. Your fellow classmates can lead you to a new career opportunity.
How did your program prepare you for your current position?
The MBA program prepared me for my current career by providing me more knowledge of the Management and HR field. Also, thanks to the MBA program of CSUB, I attended the National Society of Hispanic MBA Conference and Career Expo in Anaheim, California and successfully obtained an internship with Exxon mobil. This internship enabled me to be more competitive when pursuing full-time employment opportunities.
What are the benefits of attending CSUB for your master's degree?
As mentioned previously, obtaining a master's degree at CSUB is affordable, convenient (as it's close to home), and permits you to work with professors you already may know. Nonetheless, the MBA program of CSUB is among only 5% of programs that are AACSB-accredited

A master's degree makes you more competitive to obtain management employment opportunities; an MBA degree provides you skills and knowledge that allow you to be more confident in your professional role, and the networking opportunities are invaluable.
