CSUB Scholarship Application

Academic scholarships are considered "Gift-Aid" and are funded by corporations, non-profit organizations, and individual donors.  Recipients are typically determined through a competitive application process based on academic achievement, financial need, and/or criteria established by the donor.   Donors may elect to defer the determination of the criteria to the school.  Proceeds of the scholarship are used to help offset recipients' cost of education.

Scholarship funds used to pay for qualified expenses, such as tuition, books, and fees, are not taxable income.  However, any amount exceeding qualified expenses is considered taxable income for both U.S. and international students.

The priority application filing period is January 1st to March 2nd each year. The following section outlines the information that each applicant will need to complete to be considered for a scholarship. Please read the following information entirely before beginning your application:

** 10 Things You Need to Know Before You Complete the Scholarship Application **

(1) Personal Information

Students will need to provide their most current and reliable e-mail address. All Scholarship Award Letters will be sent to the e-mail address that is provided.

Student ID# is assigned when you apply for admission. You will need this number to complete your scholarship application.

  • New Students: Once you have applied for admission, you will receive an e-mail that includes your CSUB ID#
  • Returning Students: Your CSUB ID is located on your CSUB Student ID Card.

(2) General Application

Your answers to these questions will help us determine which CSUB scholarships you will be automatically applied to, as well as which scholarships appear in your "Recommended Scholarships" list that require additional questions for you to apply.

(3) Academic Information

This section requires information regarding high school(s) attended, date of graduation, intended program of study, etc.  We will import your official GPA, SAT, ACT, GRE, and/or GMAT scores, into the AcademicWorks database.

(4) Essay Questions

Answering these questions will allow donors and/or scholarship committee members more insight into your activities and interests, educational and career goals, and any exceptional circumstances.

(5) Attaching Recommendation Letters

All students are encouraged to submit at least (2) two Letters of Recommendation from current or former teachers and/or employers. When you complete the general scholarship application, you will be prompted to add your References' names and email addresses.  Your references will be notified via email. You may log in at any time to see if your references have replied.

NOTE: Recommendation letters must be submitted via AcademicWorks. Electronic or hard-copy references will not be accepted.

(6) "Recommended" Scholarships

These scholarships require you to complete additional information not provided in your typical application.

(7) Thank you letter requirement

If you are selected to receive a scholarship, you will be asked to "accept" the award and upload a Donor Thank You Letter to finalize your award.

(8) External Scholarships

External Scholarship links to organizations, websites, and/or search engines provided below do not constitute an endorsement of the corresponding organization, their site's sponsors, and/or of their products by CSU, Bakersfield or the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.

(9) Browser Requirements

AcademicWorks is developed to not only work with all modern web browsers but to also be fully functional for visually impaired applicants to ensure that all students have equal access to system functionality.

(10) Security

Our AcademicWorks server use 256-bit SSL encryption for all communication behind the login wall. All communication amongst the database, application, and authentication servers is also conducted via secure connections.
