Subject Matter What is it? An assessment of what you know on the subject or content area of the credential being sought. A knowledge check. There are different options to meeting subject matter. Subject Matter Program � A bachelor�s degree program that has been subject matter approved by CTC. The program will provide a waiver letter. This option is available for all teaching credentials. Degree Major Verification � This is a verification of a bachelor�s degree or higher that the major is aligned to the credential subject area being sought. This option is available for all teaching credentials. Degree Content Verification � Sometimes called the coursework lite option, it is an evaluation of 9 different content areas within your degree. This option is only available for those seeking a multiple subject or special education teaching credential. Coursework Verification � An evaluation of courses previously taken to meet each domain of the content area you are seeking. This option is available for all teaching credentials. Exams � An examination in the subject area sought can be taken. The exams are called the California Subject Examination for Teachers, known as the CSET. This option is available for all teaching credentials. Coursework and Exams � A coursework verification and passage of an exam can be combined to meet subject matter.
