LaShawn Barefield

Ms. Barefield is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a graduate of UCLA and has been a member of the Counseling Center since 2001. She strives to be an advocate for students in their quest for academic and personal achievement.

 

Michael Harville, Ph.D.
Counselor

Michael Harville

Dr. Harville is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who joined the Counseling Center in January, 2005. He is a CSUB graduate, receiving his B.A. in Psychology and English and an M.A. in Psychology. He received his doctorate in 2002 from the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno (CSPP). Dr. Harville has strong ties to the community and the University and values working with students, faculty, and staff. He has significant experience working with stress, anxiety, and depression. He welcomes couples and LGBT students.

 

Eric Lord, LCSW
Counselor

Mr. Lord is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After earning his B.A. in Child Development from Humboldt State University, he spent 5 years in Southern California working with children in residential care. Mr. Lord earned his masters degree in social work from CSUB in 2008. Since that time, he has worked within the fields of mental health, child welfare, medical social work, and with adults and children exposed to trauma including domestic violence and sexual assault. Mr. Lord has been with the CSUB Counseling Center since 2013. He is dedicated to helping CSUB students address their most pressing concerns while they continue to work toward their life’s goals.

 

Ruth Miles, LMFT
Counselor

Ruth Miles

Ms. Miles is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and CSUB Alumni. She received her masters in counseling psychology in 2005. Ms. Miles has a background in working with a wide range of mental health concerns. Some of these areas include substance abuse and addiction issues, eating disorder and body image struggles, grief counseling, as well as anxiety and depression. Ms. Miles began working in the CSUB Counseling Center in 2013. She loves working with students and being a part of the campus community.

 

Jose Medina, LCSW

Mr. Medina is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Social Worker. He received a B.A. in Psychology, B.A. in Criminal Justice and earned his M.A. in Social Work from California State University, Bakersfield. He has worked in the mental health field, serving adults and children. He has also worked as a program supervisor for a few years serving members of the community. He hopes to continue serving students and being a positive influence throughout their college life.

During his free time, Mr. Medina enjoys hiking, reading, and completing DIY projects.

 

Ghazal Abbas, LMFT

Abbas Ghazal

Ghazal Abbas is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. After receiving her Masters in Clinical Psychology in 2017, Ghazal has worked with a wide range of mental health concerns. Some of these areas include, the first-generation student experience, having a multicultural identity, the grapple with gender, social, cultural and religious expectations while finding your individuality and processing grief and loss. She is dedicated to supporting students as they navigate their college experience.
