Eric Lord, LCSW

Eric Lord, LCSW

Mr. Lord is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After earning his B.A. in Child Development from Humboldt State University, he spent 5 years in Southern California working with children in residential care. Mr. Lord earned his masters degree in social work from CSUB in 2008. Since that time, he has worked within the fields of mental health, child welfare, and with adults and children exposed to trauma including domestic violence and sexual assault. Mr. Lord is dedicated to helping CSUB students address their most pressing concerns while they continue to work toward their life’s goals.

 

Janet Millar, MA, LMFT

Janet Millar

Ms. Millar is a graduate of CSUB. She has over twenty five years experience working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  She worked in private practice in the community before returning to CSU, Bakersfield in the all of 1999. She is interested in and enthusiastic about helping students work through the concerns that affect their university experience. She is currently Vice Chair of the Academic Senate and instrumental in organizing Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Awareness months’ activities each year at CSUB.  MS. Millar is also the University Ombudsman assisting students who may find themselves in conflict with a faculty, staff or administrator or with University policies.

 

LaShawn Barefield, MA, LMFT

LaShawn Barefield

Ms. Barefield is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a graduate of UCLA and has been a member of the Counseling Center since 2001. She strives to be an advocate for students in their quest for academic and personal achievement.

 

Michael Harville, Ph.D.

Michael Harville

Dr. Harville is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who joined the Counseling Center in January, 2005. He is a CSUB graduate, receiving his B.A. in Psychology and English and an M.A. in Psychology. He received his doctorate in 2002 from the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno (CSPP). Dr. Harville has strong ties to the community and the University and values working with students, faculty, and staff. He has significant experience working with stress, anxiety, and depression. He welcomes couples and LGBT students.

Ruth Miles, LMFT

Ms. Miles has been working at the center since 2014.

Estela Sanchez, LCSW

Estella Sanchez, LCSW

Ms. Sanchez is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  She recently joined the counseling center in October 2017 as the Student Success Counselor. She earned her B.A. in psychology from UC Davis and her graduate degree in social work from UC Berkeley. Along with serving the general student population, a focus of her work is to serve students in academic jeopardy or academic probation by providing individual and group counseling, emotional support and skill development. Ms. Sanchez also facilitates an informal consultation program called "Let's Talk." Ms. Sanchez values working with students and being part of the CSUB team.
