Process for Graduation and Receiving Diploma

Candidates for baccalaureate degrees to be awarded will receive an email to complete a Grad Check Application online after the students have completed 84 semester units. The link will be available on the student's myCSUB Student Portal. Click graduation for more information on the process to graduate.

All students are urged to apply as soon as the link is available.

Students will be notified to their CSUB email if their application was approved or denied. If an application is denied, the information for classes needed will be provided. Students should meet with their school advisor as soon as possible to review their denied grad check application.

Diplomas

Diplomas are not distributed during commencement. Diplomas will be distributed upon completion and verification of degree requirements.

Diplomas will be mailed within four to six weeks after grades have been posted for your final classes.

Verify your mailing address within myCSUB to ensure the diploma is sent to the correct mailing address.

Proof of Graduation

Your official transcript with degree conferral date, not your diploma, is considered your official proof of graduation. Should you need proof of graduation for any reason before your diploma is released, you may fill out a Transcript Request Form and check “degree recorded” so your transcript will be released with degree conferral date.

Graduate with Honors

Honors at graduation are awarded to undergraduate students who have completed at least 40 residential units of letter grade work as part of their baccalaureate program. Honors awards take into account all courses taken at California State University, Bakersfield and other institutions of higher learning. The grade point averages (GPA) necessary for graduation with honors are as follows:

summa cum laude
3.9 to 4.0 GPA

magna cum laude
3.6 to 3.89 GPA

cum laude
3.3 to 3.59 GPA

Although the determinations of honors awards cannot be made until final grades are recorded and completion of graduation requirements is verified for all candidates; they are eligible to wear honors cords in the ceremonies.
