There is no rehearsal for commencement.


  • Check-In: One hour prior to the ceremony start time.
  • Check-In Location: NW Soccer Field Gate; Behind the Student Recreation Center.
  • Parking: Lots K1 and K2 are the closest; All parking lots are free to park.
  • GradPass (name card): Graduates need to bring their GradPass for check-in. GradPass can be printed or saved on an electronic devices.
  • COVID-19 Screening: Graduates need to complete the COVID-19 screening on the CSUB app or using this link 
  • Masks: Masks are not required but highly recommended.
  • COVID Testing and Vaccination: Not required.
  • Attire: Graduates are required to wear a cap and gown. Graduates must have clothing underneath their gown.
  • Decorated Caps: Caps can be decorated as long as it is respectful.


  • Gates Open: 1.5 hours prior to the ceremony start time.
  • Gates Location: CSUB Practice Softball Field south of the Main Soccer Field.
  • Parking: All lots; Lots H and I are the closest parking lots and all lots are free to park.
  • Masks: Masks are not required but highly recommended.
  • COVID Testing and Vaccination: Not required.
  • Seating: Ground seats are set up five chairs together. We request family members arrive in groups of five.
  • Handicap Parking: Lot I has designated handicap parking.
  • Strollers: Strollers are not permitted inside of the venue. 
  • Guest Tickets: Guest tickets can be printed or saved on an electronic device to be scanned.
  • Lap Children: Lap children are 3 years and younger and do not need a ticket to enter the venue.
  • Diaper Changing Station: A tent with walls is set up underneath the bleachers to provide a private diaper changing area.

Prohibited items are required to provide a safe and pleasant experience for our ceremonies. 

  • Bags, backpacks and purses are prohibited. Clear totes are acceptable.
    • If a bag must be brought in, it will be subject to search by security. This is for the safety of all our guests and campus community.
  • Umbrellas, signs, balloons, selfie sticks, camera tripods, and beach balls.
  • Air horns, noise makers, and fireworks.
  • Outside food/drinks. Exception: Formula and/or food for infants, toddlers, and for medical needs.
    • Due to expected rise in the temperature, sealed water bottles will be permitted. 
  • Illegal drugs/narcotics, alcohol, firearms and weapons.

CSUB is a tobacco-free campus. Smoking is not allowed.

Carnie's Kettle will be selling coffee, water, lemonade, snow cones, kettle corn, pastries, and other items.

The Commencement Office doesn't have access to academic records and can not check GPA status. Students may check their myCSUB for GPA. Honors is based on the Overall GPA and the CSUB GPA.

There is only one honors cord for the various levels of honors. The CSUB Bookstore-Bakersfield Campus has gold honors cords for purchase. The bookstore doesn't have other types of cords.

The Commencement Group will be set up inside and outside the venue for flower purchase, CSUB bead necklaces, and the Class of 2022 T-shirts with the graduates' names.*

*Graduates who were added after the deadline or asked not to be included on the t-shirt, those names won't be included on the t-shirts.

A reception for all graduates and guests will occur immediately after the ceremonies for refreshments and photos.
