Associated Students, Inc. - President's Message

Dear Students,

I am pleased to welcome you to California State University, Bakersfield!

My name is Ashley Schmidt and it is my honor to serve as your ASI President.

You might be thinking, what is ASI?

Associated Students, Incorporated (ASI) is specifically designed for you, the students. We are your representative government here on campus. We exist to provide an official voice through which your opinions and issues may be expressed regarding local, state, and federal issues. ASI represents the collective voice of over 10,000 students here at CSU Bakersfield. In addition to our students, we help represent over 400,000 students across the CSU system. The ASI Board will work endlessly so that your voice is heard on campus and in the halls of the Capitol in Sacramento and Washington DC. Not to mention, we host events, leadership seminars and work with all of the clubs and organizations on campus.

This summer, the ASI Board has been working hard, so that we are ready for this academic school year. We passed a balanced budget placing an emphasis on increasing collaborations and travel funding for clubs and organizations. This year, we increased the amount of money available for ASI Scholarships; we will be offering 14 $500 scholarships for Spring 2019, which both undergraduate and graduate students can submit an application. We also allocated $20,000 to one of CSUB's largest collaborative events - Runner Nights. This has become a CSUB tradition that the students look forward to. It is our ultimate goal to give students opportunities and resources to help YOU achieve greatness and to ensure a vibrant and engaged campus life.

Our goal this year is to increase our presence on campus by establishing a better line of communication with students and administration. Please visit our office located inside of the Student Union. Our entire ASI Board welcomes your ideas and feedback, so we can better serve you. I also encourage you to play a larger role within ASI; join a committee, become a member of the L.E.A.D. Program, or simply attend our weekly Friday Board meetings, which are on Fridays at 3 p.m. in ITV Studio C, underneath the Library.

I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and helping to make this an incredible year.
