A veteran educator, track and field legend, children’s advocate and Superior Court judge were announced Nov. 18 as the 2020 CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame class.

They are Blanca Cavazos, a longtime educator and current superintendent of the Taft Union High School District; Alan Collatz, a legendary CSUB track and field student-athlete and coach; Colleen McGauley, an advocate for abused and neglected children and longtime director of Court Appointed Special Advocates of Kern County; and Kern County Superior Court Judge Louie Vega.

CSUB President Lynnette Zelezny announced the soon-to-be inductees at a press conference in the Walter Stiern Library that also featured comments from Alumni Association President Linda Lara.

“I’m so very honored to share the title ‘CSUB alum’ with them,” Lara said of the 2020 class.

The Alumni Association along with then-university President Horace Mitchell created the CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Hall of Fame is intended to recognize alumni who have made significant contributions in their chosen field of endeavor and/or in their community, and whose accomplishments and careers have brought honor and distinction to the university.

We recognize these outstanding alumni annually at a black-tie gala. This year’s will be held Feb. 21, 2020, at the Seven Oaks Country Club.

Full bios on each member of the 2020 class can be found on our Hall of Fame web page.

Each shared at the press conference what the award means to him or her:

Cavazos: “I think one word is just ‘humbling.’ To hear about the other inductees and to be included with them is humbling.”

Collatz: “Obviously I’m extremely surprised and humbled, very grateful and very proud to be a Roadrunner. For 37 years CSUB has been my home, and I’m very grateful.”

McGauley: “It’s such an honor and it really melts my heart to be recognized in this way. It’s a milestone achievement and a nice surprise.”

Vega: “It’s just such an honor to be a new member of the Hall of Fame and to share it with some really great alumni.”
