Finding love at CSUB: Ian and Heather Tablit

Ian and Heather Tablit, celebrating 17 years as a couple.

My husband, Ian, and I met in 2000 at CSUB. I was in Phi Sigma Sigma, he was in Theta Chi.

We had a brief conversation in front of the Student Union, and that is what initially sparked my interest. We started talking a bit more after that at parties and social events, and then began dating in January of 2001.

We knew almost instantly that we were going to be together for a long time. That first Valentine's Day we were together, Ian made a spectacle in DDH as he hooked up an amp and played a song loudly through the hallway and came over to me with flowers.

In December of 2001, we took a trip to Disneyland and that's where he proposed, right in front of "It's a Small World"!

Our Greek life at CSUB brought us together. We both graduated from CSUB with our bachelor’s degrees in 2002, and were married on March 22, 2003, with many of our sorority and fraternity sisters and brothers present.

After our undergraduate experience at CSUB, we decided to have children and further our education. I received my preliminary credential at CSUB in special education and then went on to receive my clear credential and master’s degree in education. Ian also got his teaching credential along with his administrative credential and master’s degree.

I am now in my 14th year of teaching mild/moderate special education and work at the Downtown School. Ian is in his 15th year in education and is the vice principal at Harvest Elementary in Delano.

We also have three amazing children together: Brycen, who is 12, Alana, who is 9, and Jaxon, who is 3. They are the light of our lives and definitely keep us busy.

We will be celebrating 15 years of marriage next month and look forward to many more together.

Finding love at CSUB

As Valentine's Day approaches, we're sharing the stories of CSUB alumni who met and fell in love on campus. Today we tell the story of Ian and Heather Tablit, written by Heather.
