Finding love at CSUB: Jose and Stephanie Pagán

Pagans

As Valentine's Day approaches, we're sharing the stories of CSUB alumni who met and fell in love on campus. Today we tell the story of Jose and Stephanie Pagán, written by Stephanie.

My husband and I met at the CSUB Antelope Valley campus on our first day of class in the MBA program. We were assigned to be in the same group of our accounting class and spent the next couple of weeks studying and preparing for our presentation.

I knew right away there was something special about this man. He was stationed at Edwards Air Force Base, originally from Puerto Rico, and was uncommonly quiet and confident.

I was born and grew up in Lancaster, amongst the rich aeronautical history of the area. When I came down with food poisoning on our presentation day, he helped me through it and took care of me. We started dating at that point but didn't tell any of our classmates. Within six months we were living together and our friends and family knew but no one in our class had any idea.

We kept our relationship secret from our classmates successfully until just before finishing our coursework. We came out as a couple during the New York Finance Club trip and our classmates were absolutely shocked that we were celebrating our one-year anniversary already.

A few months after graduation he received orders to relocate to Texas and asked me to come with him. I didn't question following him even though I knew I would miss my family, friends and co-workers. At the time, I had been working for CSUB-AV for several years already.

We were married in April 2016 in Fort Worth, Texas. A short time later, we received orders to relocate to Aviano, Italy. We've been here in Italy for six months now and are expecting our first child in August.

CSUB-AV made it possible for my husband and me to meet and start our lives together. I couldn't be more thankful for our time there and the lucky coincidence that has created our little family.
