Important message regarding Spring 2018 applications:

The Cal State Apply system is currently undergoing program system updates. Spring 2018 applications for undergraduate transfer and Credential programs are temporarily not displayed for CSU Bakersfield. Prospective applicants are encouraged to check back here periodically. An updated message will be posted here once all programs are available to choose from.

All prospective students must apply through Cal State Apply, the California State University website designed to help students through each section of their application process. Many college planning resources are available on Cal State Apply. A standard, non-refundable fee of $55.00 applies (fee waivers are available for those who may qualify), submitted at the time of application.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley of central California, CSUB is one of the twenty-three campuses in the California State University System. First-Time Freshmen Students

Applicants who have earned a high school diploma or G.E.D. but have never attended a college or university since high school are considered first-time freshmen.

Transfer Students

Applicants who have attended another college or university are considered for transfer admission.

No campus impaction at the Transfer level. Open to all CSU eligible applicants meeting Upper Division transfer requirements and students meeting Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) requirements. Program impaction applies to the Nursing Program.

Post-Baccalaureate and Graduate Applicants

Applicants who have earned Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution are considered for post baccalaureate or graduate admission. Students seeking a credential program are also considered post-baccalaureate and graduate applicants.

International Students

Applicants who are seeking or currently holding U.S. visas as exchange visitors or other nonimmigrant classifications are considered international students. 


Special educational benefits are available to veterans and dependents of veterans who are eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill.

Application Filing Period

The initial application filing period for first-time freshmen and transfer applicants is October 1st - November 30th of the previous year for fall term and August 1st - 31st of the previous year for the spring term. Post Baccalaureate and Graduate applicants must check with the specific desired graduate department for any deadlines the program may have. Current application filing statuses may differ from each CSU campus.  Applicants are encouraged to apply early during available filing periods, pay close attention to the requirements for admission, as well as the deadlines for submitting an application.
