What is the CSU Eligibility Index?

The CSU eligibility index is the result of a formula that combines your achievement in high school courses with the results of the SAT I (Reading and Math) or ACT. The index uses your earned grades in courses taken in 10th through 12th grade excluding non-college prep, PE, or ROTC courses. When should I apply?

Students are encouraged to apply early during the initial application filing period. The initial application filing periods for first-time freshmen and transfer applicants are as follows: • Fall Semester: October 1st - November 30th of the previous year • Spring Semester: August 1st - 31st of the previous year. Application opening/closing may vary by term and level (Freshmenn, Transfer, etc.). Visit Cal State Apply and view the program/major offerings for the campus for a selected term.

Why should I apply early?

Applying early allows you to take advantage of completing testing requirements such as the English Placement Test (EPT) and the Entry Level Math (ELM) test that you may need to fulfill before the term begins. Submitting your application early also allows you to participate in an early orientation and advising program, which may give you more choices for classes.

What happens after I submit my application?

After your application is submitted, you should receive a confirmation email indicating the receipt of your application. In approximately two weeks, you should receive an acknowledgment email that will provide you with a unique applicant ID number and information to log on to the one-stop student portal called myCSUB. This information is sent to the email address you provided on your application, so it is very important the email address you provided is current.

How do I log into my myCSUB?

Your net ID is the first initial of your first name and your full last name; for example, jsmith. If you have a common last name, you may have a number behind your last name. There is a link on the myCSUB website that allows you to enter your CSUB ID number and last name and it will display your net ID.

When will I be notified of my admission status?

If your application file is complete, with all supporting documents received and evaluated, we will send you a notice of your admission status. This status will also be reflected on myCSUB. Be sure to monitor your "To-Do" list regularly even after you have been admitted; there may be additional documents or requirements you will need to submit.

What about standardized test scores?

You may submit your ACT or SAT test scores as part of your application for admission. These will be asked on specific sections of the Cal State Apply application Test scores from the SAT or ACT may also be directed to California State University, Bakersfield. Depending on your eligibility index, test scores may be required. Use school code 4110 for the SAT test and 0201 for the ACT test. For more information on these tests, visit or

What if I have taken Advanced Placement (AP) exams?

You may receive college credit for an AP exam score of 3 or higher. If the AP score is not on the high school transcript, you must contact the College Board and have the results sent directly to CSUB. Taking an "AP" class in high school only does not necessary earn college credit. Completion of the offered Advanced Placement exam administered by the CollegeBoard is required. Students should also inform their advisors during their Orientation that they anticipate receiving AP credit (if they took the test), because this information may affect their placement in English, math, and other courses across the curriculum.

What is Provisional Admission to CSUB?

California State University, Bakersfield may provisionally admit first-time freshmen applicants based on their academic preparation through in-progress and planned courses for the senior year. California State University, Bakersfield will monitor the senior year of study to ensure those so admitted complete their senior year of studies satisfactorily, including the required college preparatory subjects, and graduate from high school. First-time freshmen applicants must clear and remain eligible for CSU admission at the end of their high school year (8th semester) in order to remain eligible. Applicants not meeting eligibility at the end of their senior year may have their provisional admission revoked or rescinded including cancellation of any planned or enrolled courses for the first semester at CSU Bakersfield.

When is the deadline to submit my final high school transcript?

Official high school transcripts must be submitted immediately after graduation. The CSUB Admissions and Records Office needs to receive your final transcript no later than July 15th for fall admission. If you have not maintained eligibility, your offer of admission will be rescinded and or revoked.

What about other supporting documents?

Other documents may include test scores, transcripts, residency questionnaire, Non-resident tuition (AB540) documentation, and immigration documents such as a copy of your permanent resident card, or proof of California residency. Be sure to view your To-Do list on myCSUB for these documents, if requested. Important Note: Your admission and/or registration may be canceled if any of the required document(s) is/are not received by the Office of Admissions and Records by the appropriate deadline above.
