Acting 1 (Theater 232) Beginning Acting
Required Text: Acting One Handbook (available in the
bookstore)
Class Objective:
To understand the basic elements of acting and through those elements
improve the students ability to perform, communincate and succeed in
life.
Learning Outcomes:
- To become aware of personal habits, perceptions and fears that
might limit the student's ability to create.
- To explore the playwright's words in order to communicate
his/her intent vocally and physically.
- To practice clarity of speech and vocal variety to communicate
intent and meaning
- To explore human behavior through imagination, text analysis,
observation and class excercises
- To learn how to take direction and criticism with grace
Student's Responsibilities
- To be prepared
- To wear comfortable, flexible clothing that you don't mind getting
dirty
- To bring all pertinent materials to class such as texts, props,
homework, etc.
- To come with a healthy, positive attitude that supports fellow
students and the learning enviroment
- To participate fully with an open mind and a sense of humor
- To be responsible for one's own physical needs (allergies, injuries,
etc.), to adjust exercises as needed and to inform the instructor of the
specifics of these needs.
