Mary J. Allen, Professor of Psychology and Director, Faculty Teaching & Learning Center.
B.A., Psychology, 1968; M.A., Statistics, University of California, Berkeley, 1972; Ph.D., Mathematical Psychology, University of California, Berkeley, 1974.

PERSONAL STATEMENT:
A faculty member at CSUB since 1972, I have been active in my contributions to the campus, the department, and its students, and to psychology and its professional organizations. This year I am Director of the new Faculty Teaching & Learning Center at CSUB. I have published two books, Introduction to Measurement Theory and Introduction to Psychological Research, and a variety of research articles on methodology and social issues. Much of my research has been conducted in partnership with CSUB students, and for over two decades I have co-presented papers at national and regional conventions with CSUB psychology majors. In recognition of my accomplishments, I was the CSUB Outstanding Professor in 1994/1995.

I have served on the national steering committee of the Council of Undergraduate Psychology Programs (CUPP, an organization of psychology department chairs) and have been the western regional coordinator of the Council of Teachers of Undergraduate Psychology (CTUP, a national organization of psychology faculty). I currently am the president elect of CTUP. Engagement in professional organizations allows me to keep current in the latest developments in psychology and higher education.

My most recent research interest has been related to teaching and learning (paralleling the above activities). My students and I have been working on projects examining academic ethics, student-faculty relationships, and teaching strategies.

I have two adult sons, one currently a student at CSU, Long Beach, and live with my husband, two dogs, and three cats. I love to read mysteries, write short stories, do international travel, and walk on uncrowded beaches. I am also a collegiate wrestling fan (look for me at the matches) and am the academic advisor for CSUB's wrestling team.
