¿Cuál es el mejor momento en la historia del fútbol? Probablemente ocurrió en Bogotá, Colombia, en 1967. Se trata de un episodio desconocido, pero que para mí es el mejor momento en la historia del fútbol. Un delantero argentino de apellido Deevanni, que jugaba para el Santa Fé la final en contra del Millonarios (los dos equipos tradicionalmente enemigos en una ciudad como ocurre en Montevideo con el Peñarol y el Nacional, o en Buenos Aires con River y Boca), realizó un hecho extraordinario para el fútbol y para la vida. Cuando el partido estaba por terminar empatados a ceros, entró al área y cayó, provocando que el árbitro marcara penal. Pero nadie le había cometido falta. Deevanni se acercó al juez para decirle que estaba en un error, pero éste le dijo que no podía echar marcha atrás. Entonces, ante el estadio lleno de una multitud que rugía, Deevanni tuvo la dignidad de tirar la pelota afuera: no hizo lo que le convenía sino lo que creyó justo.
