The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program is a project sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the California State University.  Its goal is to broaden participation in Science, Mathematics, Engineering and Technology (SMET) disciplines and contribute to the national agenda to increase the number of underrepresented minorities receiving baccalaureate degrees in STEM disciplines. To be eligible, a student must be an individual who has faced or faces social, cultural, educational, or economic barriers to careers in STEM.

CSUB-LSAMP consists of two main components: Academic Workshops, and LSAMP Research Component.

ACADEMIC WORKSHOPS

These are mandatory-attendance workshops for CSUB students supporting lower-division courses in Chemistry and  Mathematics.  They are offered every quarter at CSUB.

The supported courses are:

  • CHEM 211 & 212
  • MATH 191, 192, 201, & 202

LSAMP RESEARCH COMPONENT

The purpose of the LSAMP Research Component (RC) is to prepare minority students in Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or Technology (SMET) research areas so that students (a) understand the research process, and (b) become ready for extramural summer research internships leading to graduate school.
