CSUB Jazz Coffeehouse Concerts
There is a rich tradition of live jazz performance at CSU Bakersfield. With award-winning big bands and small combos, the Legends of Jazz Concert Series and the Bakersfield Jazz Festival live jazz is a huge part of the cultural fabric of CSUB and our local community. An important part of that culture is the Jazz Coffeehouse Concert Series.
The Jazz Coffeehouse Concert Series is a three-concert series that features small ensembles of student-musicians with an interest in jazz and improvised music. Additionally, the JCH Concert Series is proud to feature the CSUB Jazz Singers twice a year under the direction of Peggy Sears.

NYC Trio - Hans Blix Band - May 2008
Andrew Durkin and his Industrial Jazz Group - April 2009
But, the repertoire is not limited to the royalty of jazz. Part of the rich tradition of jazz at CSUB is the focus on original compositions. Between 10-15 original compositions are premiered at the Jazz Coffeehouse concerts each year - and these new works tend to inspire the most exciting performances from our student-musicians.
