EDSE 400 requires 30 hours of field study in a local school.

   * Please do the following before next class (it takes several weeks to get a placement confirmed):

1. Pick up a Placement Request form from the Credential Office. (the blue one) Sign the Hold Harmless form on the back. Return it to Dean Hatfield or the Credential Office ASAP.

2. On the form, list your Teaching major -- that's the subject you're going to teach, not necessarily your academic major.

3. If you don't have a school preference, you will be placed in one near your home address.

4. You need to have a LiveScan receipt and TB clearance before you can go to your placement school. Your fingerprints must be cleared before you start student teaching.

You may request to waive the field observation if:

1. You have 45 or more hours experience in secondary classrooms as an aide, substitute, intern or emergency permit teacher (Coaching and special ed do not count). You must complete all the class assignments using your experience in place of the field observation.
   and

2. Complete the waiver form and hand it to me ASAP (waiver form is on the Class Information page.)

Professional Liability Insurance:

    As of August 1, 2006, the CSU Chancellor’s Office of Risk Management is requiring all students in various fields, including the Credential Program to purchase Professional Liability Insurance at the cost of $16 per Academic Year.  This fee may be paid at the Cashier’s window or online.

How to Purchase PLI (Professional Liability Insurance) if it wasn't included in your fees:

 1. Visit the CSUB.edu website.

2. Click on the 'Current Students' option.

3. Click on the 'BannerWeb' icon and access their student account.

4. Go to 'Make a Payment'

5. Choose 'Go to CSUB E-Check' if paying with a check. Choose 'Go to Smartpay Credit Card' to pay with a Mastercard, Discover, or American Express.

6. Click on 'Professional Liability-$20.00'

7. Follow online instructions to complete purchase.

* Payment can also be made by cash or check at the Cashier's Office in Administration West
