First computers were being developed mostly by research Universities (ABC).  Calculating punch (wired programing 'pre-computer') was used to perform many "computer operations".  A major computer use at this time was in calculacting trajectories for military "big guns" and mathmatical computations for war projects such as the atom bomb, rockets and jet planes.

Social Negatives--Is increasing the ability to wage war really a positive?

Effect on me--Not much direct, I'm a kid, but we did win the war (Germany had similar computer technology developments hard to say who it helped the most)

Technology:  POTS, Slide rules, typewriters, mechanical calculators, 78 RPM records (I have one).
Unit Record Devices: Card punchers, Wired calculating punches, sorter counters, accounting /tabulating machines,
