Note: The following schedule may be modified as class develops. Specific class and lab content will vary, dependent on the progress of class members. The outline of homework projects will be maintained but specifics may change.  Homework assignments must be based on the revised version of the assignment which will be made available on the web one week prior to due date.  If you want to study ahead read the text chapters as specified below.

Week 1: (edited W03-final version)

  1. Carefully read the syllabus and be prepared to ask for clarification of anything you do not understand
  2. See Trading Places (we will show in class for campus CSUB students), a bit old but still available at most video stores, and be prepared for a quiz and discussion first day week 2.
  3. Read The Human Zoo, located in the Sociology Workbook, and be prepared for a quiz and discussion first day week 2.
  4. Complete assignment A00 and turn in first day of week 2. Click below to see the assignment. (ITV participants should bring a printed copy to class and submit the assignment after class as an email attachment)
  5. Obtain accounts and learn how to use your RunnerMail and AOL Instant messenger and add you email and yahoo address to the class list

  1. Read: Chapter 5, 6 in Gelles and Levine text. We will begin discussion after the midterm on these Chapters. Be prepared for a quiz on these Chapters. Next Tuesday for Chapter 5 and Thursday for Chapter 6
  2. No written assignment (We will view a selection from the movie The Gods Must be Crazy after the midterm.  It is suggested that you rent and see this movie. Its a funny movie.)

  1. Read: Chapter 7and browse chapter 17 in Gelles and Levine text. The topic is Deviance: Individual and Collective. We will begin discussion first class of week 8. Be prepared for a quiz on these Chapters, Tuesday of week 8 for Chapter 17 and Thursday of week 8 for Chapter 17.
  2. Assignment: A04, Using The Sociological Imagination: A personal time line. The workbook contains the original non-web version which is very similar to the web version.
