The word "rape" has become very common in our society today. Rape is consistently plaguing newspaper headlines and evening news reports. Whether it is marital rape, date rape, or even incest, rape has been receiving a lot of public attention and concern.
Review of Literature and "common since"/logic about issue
Rape takes place all over many countries, cities, and states. It happens to many different types of women and men. Throughout the years, the legal definition of rape has changed. At one time, certain kinds of women were thought to have "brought it on themselves." These women consisted of prostitutes. hitchhikers, and heavy drinkers, for example. Today, court are less willing to believe that a woman who said "no" really meant "yes." But, many of these men and women who are being raped are not reporting the assault for fear of being attacked again, feeling guilty, or being hounded by the press.
Formulate the Problem-Hypothesis, dependant and independent variables
One of the possible causes of rape Is the relationship between alcohol and sexual activity. A hypothesis concerning this belief is that rape occurs more frequently when alcohol consumption is involved. Within the frames of this hypothesis, the independent variable is the alcohol, while the dependent variable is the committing the crime of rape. When alcohol is involved in any situation, judgment is not in tact, messages can be given and received wrong, and guards can be let down. The inability to think logically can confuse one as to what is right and what is wrong. Especially in the college atmosphere, alcohol plays a significant role in socialization techniques today. Whether It be the popular bar scene or a fraternity party, alcohol is always part of the socializing. This is exemplified In many movies and sitcoms where the girl goes to a party, gets drunk, and ends up putting herself in a vulnerable situation where she has to make a serious decision under the influence of alcohol.
Create a Research Design--method (survey and questions, etc), sample
The method of research used to determine the effectiveness of thehypothesis will be the survey. By using the technique of representative sampling, all CSUB students will receive a survey. Some of the questions appearing on the survey might include:
1. Age?
2. Gender?
3. Do you consume alcohol?
4. How many times a week/month do you
drink?
5.Do you consider yourself a
heavy drinker?
6. What do you consider a heavy drinker?
7. Are you sexually active?
8. Have you ever mixed alcohol and
sexual activity?
9. Has anyone ever forced you into
sexual activities? If so, did you tell anyone?
10. Were you aware of what was happening?
11. What is your definition of rape?
Collect Data-pretend it is collected for this paper
Interpret Data
After collecting data and classifying all the information, the hypothesis may be rejected, confirmed, or left undecided. One possible outcome would be if the data came back and realized that alcohol had nothing to do with the reported percentage of rape victims. If this were the case, the hypothesis would be rejected. Another potential outcome would be if the surveyed sample did not experience any correlation between rape and alcohol, but they did respond positively to mixing sex and alcohol. This would mean that the hypothesis would be left undecided at the time, and there might be another survey or an experiment or even a new representative sample to verify the results. Finally, another outcome possibility might be that the students reported to definitely see a correlation between alcohol consumption and rape victims/sexual activity; therefore, the hypothesis would be confirmed.
In order to determine If any hypothesis Is supported, the researcher must find a positive relationship between the two variables, create an appropriate research design, and, most importantly, carefully interpret and analyze the data collected. In other words, go through the basic seven steps of research carefully and be able to replicate the findings.
Create Hypothetical
data as if your study were performed
| Heavy Drinkers | Light or no Drinkers | |
| Forced Sex | 500 (25%) | 250 (12.5%) |
| No Forced Sex | 2000 (75%) | 2250 (87.5%) |
