    Sources for software
    (2) FTP program download: To download an FTP program.  I suggest WS_ftp LE , the program used by CSUB. It's getting a little hard to find but it is available at.

       ftp://www.csub.edu/PC/Win32/FTP%20Client/WS_FTP%20LE/5.08/

The final result will be you have downloaded ws_ftple.exe. To install the program on your computer just double click the ws_ftple.exe  icon and follow through the installation steps. When installing check that you are faculty or student.
(3 CSUB downloads: To download lots of different stuff from CSUB (configuration things and applications) such as   FirstClass (for staff/faculty email), NetTerm (to connect to the academic server as a user from home), etc.
        ftp://ftp.csubak.edu/

    (4) Multimedia programs: Want to hear, see multimedia on the web?  Listen to sounds, see animation, view short movies  from an internet source.  Most of these require a "broad band" connection [ T3 (100 MB, upgrade expected soon) like CSUB or T1,  DSL or Cable Modem at work or home].

    (a) One of the first media players from Real.com (also referred to as RealAudio and RealPayer). Click the connection below but read the page carefully and find the free version if you don't want to pay $:
    http://www.real.com/realoneplayer.html?pp=choice&src=player_redct,020912r1choice_c1
. "We have found that of all the media players available, the 'realplayer' produces the least reliable results. We recommend using winamp or  iTunes if possible"

    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
    (d) Macromedia's Flash  Player, a fairly common web format.  "Flash Player lets you experience animation and entertainment in your Web browser." [At least for those pages designed to use Flash Player]

    http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash

    (e) Macromedia's "Shockwave Player is the Web standard for entertaining, engaging, rich media playback. It lets you view  interactive Web content like games, business presentations, entertainment, and advertisements from your Web browser. You've probably seen Shockwave Player in action on top business and entertainment sites like Disney.com, Intel.com, SharperImage.com, Palm Computing, and thousands of other Web sites."

    (g) Radio, DJs with 1000s of stations as well as other information about internet broadcasts:

    (5) Software products: You can purchase a selected Microsoft and other software products at a discount if you are a student or faculty online. You must have a Runner ID card to do this and go through  little bureaucratic BS the first purchase. The price is significantly lower then most retail prices and worth the effort.
