CSUB Student and faculty information for Computer Users |
(1) HELP from computer lab: Help from the computer lab for problems [Frequently Asked Questions] accessing the academic web server, browsing CSUB web sites, Lab hours, downloads for CSUB students, etc.:
The final result will be you have downloaded ws_ftple.exe. To install the program on your computer just double click the ws_ftple.exe icon and follow through the installation steps. When installing check that you are faculty or student.(3 CSUB downloads: To download lots of different stuff from CSUB (configuration things and applications) such as FirstClass (for staff/faculty email), NetTerm (to connect to the academic server as a user from home), etc.
(4) Multimedia programs: Want to hear, see multimedia on the web? Listen to sounds, see animation, view short movies from an internet source. Most of these require a "broad band" connection [ T3 (100 MB, upgrade expected soon) like CSUB or T1, DSL or Cable Modem at work or home].
(a) One of the first media players from Real.com (also referred to as RealAudio and RealPayer). Click the connection below but read the page carefully and find the free version if you don't want to pay $:

(e) Macromedia's "Shockwave Player is the Web standard for entertaining, engaging, rich media playback. It lets you view interactive Web content like games, business presentations, entertainment, and advertisements from your Web browser. You've probably seen Shockwave Player in action on top business and entertainment sites like Disney.com, Intel.com, SharperImage.com, Palm Computing, and thousands of other Web sites."
(g) Radio, DJs with 1000s of stations as well as other information about internet broadcasts:
(5) Software products: You can purchase a selected Microsoft and other software products at a discount if you are a student or faculty online. You must have a Runner ID card to do this and go through little bureaucratic BS the first purchase. The price is significantly lower then most retail prices and worth the effort.
(6) PDF file reader: Want to read PDF files? Download and install the latest Adobe Reader free.
(7) Test your speed: Want to test the speed of your connection. Just click here and you will find your current speed. This site has lots of interesting material including a comparison of the differences between modem, DSL, cable modem, etc.:
(8) Check the security: Want
to check the security of your computer when it is connected on the
internet?
This site lets you test your computers security from internet
hackers. Go to the following page, read the info at the top,
scroll down and click the proceed
button. Lots of possible checks on your security
(9) Protection from hackers: Protect your computer from internet hackers. The following program is highly recommended and I have used it with good results. Look for the free version unless you want the more comprehensive package:

left by web sites on your computer have become a privacy issue.
