Apply or Record a Style
Figure 21
Dragging the triangle on the Style Tools bar will let you apply a pre defined
style to selected text. A style is a set of format commands including font
type, size, text alignment, margins, indent, etc., see above example. Defining
your own styles is an advanced function that I have only used a couple
of times. Check out the specifics of this function by clicking
Here.
(2)
Set Font Type, Lets you change the font for selected text
or determine the font for text to be typed in.
Figure 22
Dragging the down arrow beside the font name will let you choose the font
type for selected text or the next text typed. Font types have names that
were given by early printers. Fonts may be proportional or non proportional.
Non proportional fonts are older fonts designed for early computer printers.
The font used for this document is a special variable width font for web
pages. In proportional fonts the space the character takes on a line varies
with the character width. An" I" takes less space then an "M". For non
proportional fonts, all characters take the same amount of line space.
Older fonts such as those for mainframe programs such as SPSS and other
mainframe programs are non proportional.
| NOTE: Limit the number of different fonts you use in a paper. Too many
font types are distracting to the reader. |
(3)
Set Font Size
Figure 23
Dragging the arrow and highlighting a number and releasing the mouse button
will let you set the size of selected text or the next text typed. Sizes
possible are from size 4 points to 127 points. Size 12 is the norm for
most text but for a few font types such as "Times" this can be a bit small.
