Windows 95, 98, 2000, XP FTP

A. Find and open Fetch, fill out the dialog box and you will log on the remote computer in FTP mode.  Fetch in the CSUB computer labs is found in :

Server Disk/Applications/Communication/Network/Fetch/Fetch2.1.2

Host:    academic.csubak.edu
<-the name, location, and domain of the computer with which you wish to exchange files (the CSUB student academic web server in this case).
The host for the faculty www server is:    www.csubak.edu
User ID:    jross
<-your user ID for the remote computer (this is my user ID on the academic web server).  For students the USER ID will be your RunnerMail user name

Password:    ******
<-Your password for the remote computer (your password will not show as you type it). For students this will be the year of your birth + the last 4 digits of your SSN ---no spaces
Directory:
<-This should be blank in most cases.
OK
<-Click the OK button and you will be connected to the remote computer and the following dialog box will appear

(1).  If you see the files you want to download (Get...) or the location you want to upload files (Put File...) skip to step "2". If you are not at the proper location on the remote computer  follow the following steps.

• Scroll to the folder in which you wish to exchange files. For our example we choose the  WWW folder for uploading web files, html, gif, jpg, etc.
• Click on the WWW directory two times.
 
(2)  Transfering files, after finding files and locations, upload from your Mac (Put...) or download from the remote computer (Get...)
Choose the  appropriate file format for the files you want to transfer:
Automatic    <- does not work for all files
Text             <- works for ASCII and HTML files
Binary         <- works best for graphics, gif, jpg files. Choose raw from format choices.

Put

• Click Put File.. and find the file you want to upload in the dialog box that appears next

• in our example we want to transfer the construction.gif in our WWW folder so we should have clicked the Binary button in the previous dialog box, then choose raw for file for format choices
• Click the Open button and your file will be uploaded.

• Choose the  appropriate file format for the files you want to transfer:

Automatic    <- does not work for all files
Text             <- works for ASCII and HTML files
Binary         <- works best for graphics, gif, jpg files
Click the file you want to download to your Mac
• Click the Get button and the file will be downloaded to your Mac

• Start WS_FTP LE   (It's in the Communications folder on CSUB  lab machines. You can also download a copy at CNET)
• From WS_FTP LE_ Log-on the computer.
• Type the address of the computer with which you want to transfer files. The address for the CSUB student web server is www.csub.edu
• Just fill in the entry boxes as shown below for the CSUB student web server---Use your User ID and Password not mine.)

For Students: Account names have been created on http://stuweb.csub.edu// using your RunnerMail email  address up to the "@" sign. All passwords are set to one of the following:        HostName/Address:            www.csub.edu        User ID                               your RunnerMail user name        Password                            the password given to you by your instructor or the web manager

• Mine looks like this:

Click the OK button to log on.

• The WS_FTP LE dialog box will open

• On the left will be your computer, Local System. On the right side, Remote System, will be your space on the web server. This is the place where you want to copy or place files you want available on the internet. 
• On the left side, your PC, Local System,  find the files you want on the web
  
• You then click each file listed on your computer that you want copied to the wb server, then click ->, the right arrow, pointing from the Local System to the Remote Site window to copy the files. Don't forget to transfer all necessary files for your web page htm, html, gif, jpg,etc. The transferred files will appear in the listing of Remote System on the right of the WS_FTP LE dialog box as they are copied
