Computer Utilities:FTP, Transfering files between computers [edit 4/26/07].

FTP; File Transfer Protocal, procedures that allow/facilitate file exchanges between computers over the Internet. this could be for downloading programs, documents, plugins (for browsers) software upgrades, graphics, etc. A software scheme for eliminating transmission errors when sending files. These schemes send data in small chunks called packets, then check each packet for errors. If the software detects an error, the protocol resends the packet. If no errors are detected, the next packet is sent. Common file-transfer protocols include Xmodem, Ymodem, Zmodem, and Kermit.

Fetch
Fetch is a shareware program one can be downloaded from web sources. At CSUB  it can be copied from CSUB lab Macs

A. Find and open Fetch, fill out the dialog box and you will log on the remote computer in FTP mode.  Fetch in the CSUB computer labs is found in :

Server Disk/Applications/Communication/Network/Fetch/Fetch2.1.2
B. Fill in the dialog box with the following:
C. In this dialog box:
D Choose Quit when all your transfers have been completed.
You are now ready to view your page WEB Creation Step 4.

For Students:
Account names have been created on http://stuweb.csub.edu// using your RunnerMail email  address up to the "@" sign.
All passwords are set to one of the following:

       HostName/Address:            www.csub.edu
       User ID                               your RunnerMail user name
       Password                            the password given to you by your instructor or the web manager
Your Computer                                             Remote Computer {csub.edu}
