NOTES FROM THE SOCIAL SCIENCE COORDINATOR PROFESSOR JEANNE HARRIE

The Social Sciences Teacher Preparation Program is overseen by a committee of faculty from the disciplines of History, Economics, Political Science, Geography, and Sociology. The committee establishes and oversees the curriculum in accordance with state standards and sets and enforces program policy. This fall the committee made a number of decisions that will affect students in the program.

Additions/changes to the Social Science curriculum:

The Social Science Advisory Committee recently approved the addition of three new courses to the Social Science curriculum. Students may elect to take History 423, Modern Japan to satisfy category 5, World Civilization: Asia/Africa; Religious Studies 365, Native American Religion to satisfy category 11, Cultural/Ethnic Perspectives; and History 421, Gender in East Asia to satisfy category 12, Gender Perspectives. Professor Connie Orliski, who joined the History faculty this fall, will teach Gender in East Asia in the winter quarter and Modern Japan in the spring quarter.
