Judy Gorman: Singer and Songwriter

This seminar is open to the public. Students who are taking the course for credit must attend the Thursday night concert on March 4th in the Multipurpose Room at 8:15 p.m. and attend three (3) sessions on Friday, March 5th. A short typed critique on all events attended must be submitted for one (1) unit of credit. Critiques can be sent to Dr. Jane Granskog, Department of Sociology/Anthropology, CSUB, or delivered to her office at DDH/BB203 no later than March 16th, 1999.

"Judy Gorman in Concert"

Judy Gorman is a high intensity, blues rooted singer whose original songs get their wings from her imagination and their roots from the folk, blues, jazz and gospel music she has been surrounded by all her life.  Her earliest childhood memories are of hearing the albums of of Billie Holiday, Woodie Guthrie, Paul Rebeson and Leadbelly.  She has given concerts of her own music in over ten countries and forty of the United States, performing at clubs, universities, festivals, and peace and justice events, some of which have been attended by as many as half a million people.

"A Glimpse of Women in Ethiopia:  Challenges of Becoming Visible" ...a recounting of the experiences of the past two years living and working in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as an educational television producer for the Ethiopian Educational Media Agency with footage of how women of Ethiopia exist from day-to-day, and the challenges they've yet to overcome.
