HOT SEAT REVIEW GAME

Although this strategy may be adapted for a number of activities, it works particularly well as a materials review for a unit test or a big quiz.

PRELIMINARY PREPARATIONS

·            Require each student in class to prepare a list of questions which might be presented to the person on the “hot seat’.

Ø     Students should make two copies of the questions, one for the teacher, one to keep.

Ø     The student must be able to answer any question he poses.

·       These questions should be turned in for a grade two-days prior to the activity.

·       Teacher should prepare multiple copies of a study list of these amassed questions prior to the activity

RULES FOR THE GAME

·       Any student may be placed on the “hot seat” for a total of 5 questions to be answered.  (Questions presented must come from those prepared by the students and previously given to the teacher for a grade.)

·       After the student has completed the time on the “hot seat”, he or she will choose a successor by calling out a number which corresponds to someone’s name in the grade book.

·       Each “hot seat” student will receive a grade from the teacher for his or her performance.

ACTIVITY

·       Place a chair front and center as a “hot seat”.  Invite a volunteer or specify the first occupant of the seat of honor.

·       If necessary, remind students of appropriate behavior.

·       Allow the activity to proceed according to the rules outlined above.

·       At the conclusion of the session, distribute to the students a copy of the questions asked (so that they can prepare for a test if they so desire.)
