FILM REVIEW QUESTIONS
· Introduction: For most movies, you can follow the format below to write a review. Try to answer these questions in short essays of 3 or 4 paragraphs: Give the name of the film, an approximate setting (time and place of the action), the main points of the film and your viewpoint of the film.
Ø Ex. Beloved with Oprah Winfrey and Danny Gover is a touching yet frightening look at the lives of ex-slaves after the Civil War in the American South. The main point is to show the guilt of an escaped slave after she kills her child to avoid being taken back into slavery. The painful story is more than a sad reminder of the sufferings of people who survived slavery. It is a tribute to their strength and endurance.
· Main character: Describe the main character is several sentences. What kind of person is this? What are hi/her strengths and weaknesses? What is the chief problem that he/she faces?
· Secondary character #1: Describe a secondary character that you found particularly interesting (maybe the chief antagonist). What kind of person is this? What are his/her strengths and weaknesses? Is he successful or unsuccessful at the end?
· Secondary character #2: Describe a third character that you found to be particularly interesting (maybe the chief antagonist). What kind of person is this? What are his/her strengths and weaknesses? Is he successful or unsuccessful at the end?
· Most powerful or moving scene: Describe a scene you particularly liked and explain what it shows. Why were you impressed and/or moved?
· Message of the film: What is the moral or message of the film? How well did the screen writer convey the message?
· Acting: Which actor or actress particularly impressed you? Why? Was the acting believable? Was anyone miscast?
· Conclusion: Who would like to see this film? Who would it appeal to? Why is it important? Why are the themes important?
