Extra Credit

The menu list given below contains links to articles or abstracts in the journal or newspaper identified . If you find the article of interest or would simply like to read the article for extra credit, the journal can be found in the library. Articles that are found in the journal Sciencecan also be Xeroxed by checking the appropriate issue out from the instructor. You are encouraged to Xerox the article and then read it in your spare time. To receive extra credit you must follow the instructions for extra credit given in your syllabus.

The student is encouraged to comment on the articles when that capability is enabled. The comments will not be graded, but effort expended here could help the grade in the event a person falls on a cutoff point for the next grade level.

Weekly Articles on the WWW

The following articles will be activated by Monday every other week. In the case of Science articles the link may be only to the abstracts and it is your responsibility to obtain a complete copy of the article. In some case if the article is availably, you will need to use log-in name and password from the instructor. In the case of Molecular Vision or The Scientist articles you will gain access to the complete article without a password. In either case you are encouraged to download and print the articles. Responses are to be posted before class on the date noted, except in the case of Week 10 when the article is due by Monday November 22, 1999 at 5 pm.

• Week 1, Monday Sept. 27, 1999 . The name of the article is "Complexity and the Nervous System " by Christof Koch and Gilles Laurent in Science. Read the article, think about it and post your own thoughts about the article. Try to say something more than, "I agree with....", ect. Post something original! Post your response

I will warn you now that this is a pretty controversial subject and not one that is full of technical jargon. Read the statement, give yourself time to think (in other words don't fly off the handle" and than post your response. PLEASE NO NAME CALLING OR PERSONAL ATTACKS. The Importance of Evolution, or Not! • Week 7, Monday Nov 15, 1999It seems that we are hitting the quarter in my life where statements I make our proved wrong. I said that not much research happens in Olfaction and in the Oct 22, 1999 issue of Science there appears a special section on this very topic. So I thought this would be an interesting article to read, given the lecture of Dr. Ishida and are suppose fascination with Sex (j/k) Anyway here is the article by Eric B.
