Information for New Faculty
Shown here are links to the various documents that were used or
discussed during the New Faculty Orientation, for Psychology Faculty held on
Sept.1 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 12:00
The first item is the Agenda that was
used by the Chair as a guide. The list is an Word Document and does not include
the discussion of Advising. Thought the agenda might be of limited use, it
might jog the memory somewhat allowing you to retrieve some of the information
provided.
Items included below are not in an order of importance, but do follow
the order of the agenda for the Meeting. Note that most of the files are Word
Documents, that can be saved.
- RTP/PTR--This is the Review, Tenure and Promotion and
Post-Tenure Review; respectively.
- Classroom Expectations--The agenda provides the topics that are
relevant and faculty are encouraged to pick and choose from material the
current gray-haired faculty have on-line.
- Although under revision, the department expects that students will
learn about each of the 5 items listed in the
CSUB Psychology Goals sheet.
- Psychology is an area where testing is more or less the norm. The
department keeps a number of tests on file and the
list is given here. Advising seems to be
one area that faculty are initially unsure, with some good reasons. To help we
provide the following.
- Students who initially declare Psychology as a major are
generally transfer students from the local junior colleges. To help with the
transfer of courses from the junior colleges the campuses agree through
articulation what lower division courses will meet particular requirements.
Shown here are the Psychology
Articulations with most of the feeder junior colleges.
- A little known fact for all students and many faculty is that all
courses in the major and minor must have been completed in the last 10 years.
Courses older than 10 years must be either taken over or re-certified. The
department has adopted a stategy in which we have identified particular faculty
to recertify particular courses (see
Psychology
Department Recertification Policy.doc)
- Students are shown in Psyc 290 the curriculum required, as well
as during advising periods. Attached here is an Excel spreadsheet that allows
the student to track Psychology Courses. Another
form is in the works to track GE courses, for those students that might contact
us as Freshman.
- The
University
Handbook is the agreement between the Faculty and Administration about how
we will do business. Although much of it is governed by the CFA (California Faculty Association) contract
with the CSU, much is also negotiated during meeting of the
CSUB Academic Senate and the
committees of that body, which are ultimately accepted, or modified with
negotiation, by the Campus President.
- NEW ITEMS: Here are links to previous personal statements written by
me. These are word documents. The first is for the review in
1996/1997, the other two cover the period from
1997 to 2000 and 1997 to
2001. I am not saying these are great, but I did get eventually promoted
and become chair of the department. If any of the current Tenure-track faculty
would like to look at my full file, you have my permission to contact Lori
Lowrimore in the Dean's office.
If there is something that should be on this page, please
contact me and let me know. Sincerely,
Jess
