Children’s Art Day is an annual event that takes
place in May in cooperation with the Vice President for Public Relations and
Director of CSUB’s Annual Giving. It is a fun filled day for children
of CSUB patrons in grades 1-6. Children are invited to participate in
art workshops, a culminating exhibition and a family barbecue.
Workshops are based upon renowned artists and taught by students enrolled in
Dr. Turner’s students enrolled in the Spring Art 302 "Art in the Elementary
Classroom"
Students decorate each workshop room in a common
theme relative to a particular artist. They share information to the
children about the artist using overhead projectors. Then the children
are allowed to create their projects based upon what they learn about the
artist featured in the workshop. Students in the Art 302 course are
prospective elementary and secondary classroom teachers. These
students learn about the artists that are a featured for Children’s Art Day
and present a workshop that is age appropriate for attending children.
Students take turns teaching a lesson, then mat the children’s artwork for a
culminating exhibition and present the work to the parents and patrons of
CSUB following the family barbecue.
