Backgroundline

I received my undergraduate degree in biochemistry at the California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. While I was at Cal Poly, I had my first organic chemistry research experience in the laboratory of Professor Jan Simek. I then went on to conduct my senior project research with Professor Eric Kantorowski. After I received my undergraduate degree, I headed east to Boston University and received my masters in chemistry under the supervision of Professor John Porco.

It turns out I don’t like snow much, so after a brief internship at Amgen in Cambridge with Dr. Ryan White, I came back to California for my doctoral work. I received my Ph.D. in chemistry with Professor Mark Kurth at the University of California, Davis. I joined the chemistry department faculty at CSUB in fall 2010.

At CSUB, I teach primarily organic chemistry and on occassion some instrumental analysis. I also developed CHEM 290, Careers in Chemistry & Biochemistry, a course designed to teach undergraduate chemistry majors about their career options after they graduate. (For more information on the classes I teach, view my teaching page.) I believe in the value of service-learning, and thus many of the classes I teach involve community engagement activities. I am also the Chemistry Club faculty advisor.
