CO-DIRECTOR
of the English Language Professional Development Institute held
at CSUB during the first week of August, 2001, 2002, and 2003
along with four follow-up sessions each year. This Institute
presented strategies for working with the English learner to
over 450 participants. We administered over $800,000 over the
period of three years. Short video clips of the major

PRINCIPAL,
GRADES 5-8, SUNSET SCHOOL, Vineland School District,
Bakersfield, CA. Enrollment fluctuated from 330-450 students
due to the opening of the Migrant Labor Camp in April of each
year. Was instrumental in initiating many drug and gang
intervention programs and strategies. Realigned
curriculum to match state standards and to
maximize effective instructional strategies for EL and Special
Education learners through the implementation of
interdisciplinary instruction, comprehensible input, and
authentic, performance based assessment.
Led (in other districts)
and conducted (at Sunset)
numerous program quality reviews and Supervised a
successful Coordinated Compliance Review from the
California State Department of Education with no items out of
compliance and numerous commendations.
Conducted numerous staff
development training sessions on many different topics
including: integration of technology in the classroom, conflict
resolution, behavior modification, multicultural education,
thematic unit instruction, bilingual instruction, SDAIE
strategies, curriculum writing workshops, writing
portfolio/rubric instruction, etc. Designed, introduced and implemented effective use
of technology in the classroom. RAISED Academic
Performance Index 55 points during the last year (2000-2001)
VICE-PRINCIPAL, GRADES K-6, FAIRFAX SCHOOL, Fairfax
School District, Bakersfield, CA. Enrollment was approximately
620 students. Designed and
implemented a 4-8th grade ELD
program—trained all teachers, monitored implementation and
evaluated results. Conducted
numerous staff development training sessions for teachers
on many different topics.
Implemented a positive reinforcement system for
students.
SECONDARY
READING COORDINATOR FOR 32 SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN LOS
ANGELES—(based on successful intervention for three years at
Roosevelt High School (raised scores of Reading Improvement
class students an average of 1.8 years per semester)—chaired all
reading committees and departments, assisted in writing the
reading proficiency tests for LAUSD, developed reading
curriculum and inservices for department chairs and all teachers
and assisted teachers in the development of reading
instructional strategies.
CURRICULUM
EXPERIENCE:
Initiated a curriculum
consulting firm (2003-present) to work with IIUSP schools.
Developed and wrote strategies, curriculum, a writing
rubric, a literacy program, an observation protocol checklist to
be used for self-reflection for teachers and also by
administrators, among other
materials based on the needs of the school.
Initiated and implemented all
curricular innovations at Sunset School, including
bilingual/ELD instruction, thematic and core curriculum
instruction, portfolio and standards based assessment, &
multicultural instruction, conflict resolution, classroom
meetings, etc.
Member
on a committee of six (for Los Angeles Unified School District)
which restructured the District ESL Secondary Course of
Study. After correlating the intermediate and advanced levels
of ESL to English 9AB and 10AB, the committee developed a new
course of study (beginning through advanced) which was thematic,
and based on a communicative (student centered) approach.

SIXTH
THROUGH NINTH GRADE COUNSELOR for Gage Junior High
(Middle) School in the Los Angeles Unified School District
(Huntington Park). Initiated
a career education program,
Designed and implemented
a computer reporting system for all Compensatory Education
schools in our region.
KINDERGARTEN
THROUGH SIXTH GRADE COUNSELOR for Virginia Avenue
Elementary School in the Fairfax School District, Bakersfield,
CA. Wrote and implemented an elementary group counseling
program as well as an elementary individual academic and
personal counseling program. Wrote and implemented a new
school discipline program along with evaluation procedures for
both programs. . Organized and led staff training. Coached
girl’s softball. Acted as Principal Designee. Led committees
for the PQR, CCR and School Accountability Report Card.
TEACHING
EXPERIENCE:
Community
Adult Schools: (Part-time nights from September, 1977 to
November, 1983), Westchester Community Adult School, North
Hollywood (LAUSD), Van Nuys Community Adult School (LAUSD),
Pacoima Community Adult School (north San Fernando Valley, LAUSD),
and the Long Beach Adult School System. Subjects taught
included: Typing, “Speed Reading”, Reading Improvement, and
English As a Second Language, Levels I, II, and III.
Secondary

Roosevelt High School, East Los Angeles, (LAUSD). Subjects
taught included: Reading Improvement, Basic Reading and English
10AB. Reading was delivered in a highly individualized format.
Statistical surveys revealed 1.8 years’ growth in reading
ability, on the average, per semester. Member of the Reading
Team.

High School, Las Vegas, NV (Clark County School District—CCSD).
Subjects taught included: Psychology and Orientations (a school
to career program).

the intramural sports program. Coached the girl’s

Title VII research coordinator for 29 master’s students this
year. Served on the committee to restructure the teacher
education program, on the Educational Research Committee, on the
Project TNT (LC3) task force , collaborated with Bakersfield
City Schools on grant writing, wrote and co-directed the English
Language Development Professional Institute for three years,
along with numerous other projects.
OTHER:
Worked as
administrative assistant to the Sumitomo Bank manager. Wrote
copy (brochures) for a travel agency. Worked as accountant and
corporate secretary for BWT Industries, Long Beach, CA.
