The Social Perception, Attitudes, Mental Simulation (SPAMS) Lab is directed by social/personality psychologist Chuck Tate and focuses on (a) the perception of social categories [social perception], (b) attitudes toward social categories [attitudes], and (c) prediction and counterfactual thinking [mental simulation].
Specifically, we examine individual differences in how people define social categories (e.g., ‘race,’ gender, sexual orientation) and the implications these definitions have for prejudice, self-concepts, and other aspects of person-perception. We also study the processes underpinning and supporting predictions of future events in social and non-social domains, as well as the interplay between prediction (what might be) and counterfactual thinking (what might have been).
The SPAMS Lab currently conducts research at San Francisco State University. Please visit our lab website for more information. |
